Music Video for Masha Qrella’s Single HEART FAILED From her current album SONGBOOK (Music and Lyrics by Saint Etienne), Label: STAATSAKT / BERLIN / GERMANY Released in May 2025. A fully AI-generated (SORA) music video, projected onto the tangible substance of a body and filmed in a single take. In this case, that body belongs to musician Masha Qrella: a candy-colored world made of inflated balloons inside a hall of mirrors. Everyone is here: The golden cosmonaut DOOOT, once a symbol of progress; the inflated ARTIST, who fails; the drag queens giving the middle finger; the plus-sized ballerina QUEEN; the Geisha ARTISTE; the whirling Dervish, who places no value on material possessions; and the Michelin Man from Ghostbusters, who is empowered to destroy the bloated Spotify and rewrite the story. And because the internet is currently flooded with AI-generated videos, the body as a projection surface—and the hand that casually reaches three-dimensionally into the frame—still offers something to hold on to, a way to maintain the feeling that we still have some control. For now. Seriously though, it takes almost no skill anymore to generate impressive footage with AI. That was both shocking and fascinating. The hardest part of working with AI, by the way, was getting it to show a middle finger (since U.S. censorship still controls that, too). Whether we succeeded—you’ll have to see in the video.
