As we approach the second season of the Puerto Aventuras International Film Festival (PAIFF), the excitement is already building. With over 40 outstanding film submissions from 17 countries received so far, the competition is fierce, and the level of talent on display is truly remarkable. Today, we are thrilled to announce the first round of Early Bird Award winners, five exceptional films that have already captured our attention and earned early recognition. These films will be upgraded to nominee status for our annual festival, scheduled for April 2-6, 2025. Let’s take a closer look at these incredible projects that stood out among the submissions:

This film not only educates audiences about this lesser-known insurrection but also explores broader themes of leadership, misinformation, and the impact of charismatic figures. EXPERIMENTAL: The Abyss (Argentina), Directed by Andres Aloi
The Abyss follows Iris, a young woman confined to a wheelchair, as she tests a groundbreaking device that induces vivid dreams. Directed by Andres Aloi, a seasoned filmmaker with a background in both screenwriting and directing, The Abyss represents the cutting edge of independent filmmaking.
While these five films have earned early recognition, the journey is far from over. All films submitted to PAIFF are still eligible for official selections, nominations, and awards until the final notification date in February. Fifteen Early Bird selections in all will be announced with five more in October and again in December, with the overall remaining festival selections revealed throughout January. The final announcement will take place in February 2025, just in time to prepare for the spring festival.
