A Cree Approach follows Tristin Greyeyes on a deeply personal journey  to understand why Cree was not her first language, unraveling the story  of her late grandmother, Freda Ahenakew. Freda, a single mother of 12  and high school dropout, witnessed a generational divide in her  family—half of her children learned Cree as their first language, while  the rest grew up without it. Despite these challenges, Freda became a  renowned Indigenous scholar, linguist, and advocate for the Cree  language, notably creating the Cree Standard Roman Orthography, a  writing system that revitalized language learning for future  generations.

Through interviews, archival footage, and personal reflection,  Tristin delves into Freda’s legacy, uncovering the complex history  behind her work and its profound impact on Indigenous language  revitalization. Along the way, Tristin is inspired to learn Cree  herself, as she recognizes the vital importance of preserving her  cultural heritage. This intimate documentary is not only a tribute to  Freda’s enduring influence but also a call to action for the reclamation  of language and identity in Indigenous communities.

Nemad©c, an independent film production company based in the  Netherlands, proudly announces the launch of ARMED with a BRUSH, a  full-feature documentary portraying the works and lives of Chilean  street art movement Brigada Ramona Parra (BRP).

The BRP originated in 1968 as a propaganda department of the JJCC  (Juventudes Comunistas de Chile, Chilean Communist Youth League). As a  young group they supported the democratically elected President Salvador  Allende.

The early members of the Brigada Ramona Parra (named after a  political activist assassinated in Santiago in 1946) painted verbal  messages on strategically placed walls of the capital to communicate  their views in support of democracy and equality. Their art form evolved  into colourful murals depicting symbols of what they have always  believed to be basic human rights, while lashing out against  totalitarian regimes and social inequalities.

During the Pinochet regime, members of the BRP were captured,  tortured, and killed, while others went into exile. Still, BRP members  persisted in their belief that the paintbrush was mightier than the  sword, that ideas would eventually conquer senseless violence and  repression.

Today's BRP is stronger and more determined than ever to peacefully  paint for justice and equality among Chileans. Despite the political  lull, the BRP brigadistas remain relentless in their strife for a more  equitable democracy in Chile, passing their art form and beliefs on to  even younger generations, relentlessly, colourfully depicting the dreams  and hopes forever painted in the hearts and minds of the Chilean  people.

In a series of compelling interviews spanning across three  generations and nearly 60 years of paintbrush wielding, ARMED with a  BRUSH explores the origins, motivations, symbolism, and evolution of  this unique, bold, relentless pacifist movement in a country still  wrought with unsolved social and political issues. This never-ending  search for justice and equality among the Chilean people may be best  expressed by Chin Chin, a senior brigadista, whose firm belief is that  (they) “can change the world”.

On the hot summer days in the old city of Acre, a tradition connects the  generations - children and teens jump from the old city walls into the  sea waters below, a test of courage on the path to masculine maturity.  Among the black coastal rocks and ancient stone ramparts, each leap is  absolute freedom and a breath of fresh air amid the boredom of the long  summer vacation. During the endless sweltering days, everlasting  friendships are forged around this defining tradition, as the ranks of  youth are replenished from generation to generation. The film unveils a  nostalgic and stirring world of friendships, dangers and displays of  bravery - all anchored in the experience of youthful masculinity atop  the ancient city walls.

"Palestine Lentils" is a documentary film that tells the story of a  Palestinian chef and his role in using his hobby as a shield against the  famine caused by the war on Gaza, preserving the spirit of resilience  and hope within his community.

Beach Inna Bondage is a short documentary by Kingston-based Dutch  filmmaking duo Emiel Martens and Elsie Vermeer in collaboration with the  Jamaica Beach Birthright Environmental Movement (JaBBEM) and  Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae arist Keznamdi exploring the growing  struggle for beach access in Jamaica. Since the 1950s, public access to  the island’s beaches has steadily declined, leaving less than one  percent of the coastline publicly accessible for Jamaicans. Over the  decades, most of Jamaica’s beaches have been captured by private and  tourist interests, and particularly since the 2000s large-scale hotel  developments have limited beach access for Jamaicans.

This film follows the grassroots movement resisting the privatization  of Jamaican beaches by zooming in on three frontline struggles: Bob  Marley Beach near Kingston, the Blue Lagoon in the parish of Portland,  and Mammee Bay Beach on the island’s North Coast. The interviewees, all  Jamaicans, reveal how the 1956 Beach Control Act, which is still in  effect today, vests ownership of the foreshore in the Jamaican state  (and actually the British Crown) and traces how this colonial-era law,  combined with the island’s all-inclusive tourism model, has displaced  communities, disrupted livelihoods, and degraded environments.  Interwoven with archival footage, news clips, and recordings of protest  rallies and court cases, the interviewees situate today’s beach access  struggles within Jamaica’s troubled history of land ownership following  emancipation and independence. They argue that the island’s tourism  industry replicates plantation logic by monopolizing land, concentrating  wealth, exporting profits, and, ultimately, marginalizing the people.

Beach Inna Bondage shows that beach access, which is not only an  issue in Jamaica but across the Caribbean and beyond, is an urgent  matter of historical, economic, social, cultural and environmental  justice, raising the question of who the tropical paradise of sun, sand,  and sea truly serves, and at what cost...

Scotty's story, though fictionalized, echoes the deep and often  overlooked yearning felt by many pets left behind when their humans  venture beyond our planet. This tale captures the unbreakable bond  between a pet and its owner, even when separated by the vastness of  space.

While Scotty may be a product of imagination, his emotions are very  real, representing the countless animals who patiently wait for their  loved ones to return. Through the lens of this devoted terrier's  journey, we explore not just the cutting-edge technology of NASA's Laser  Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD), but also the timeless and  universal themes of loyalty, love, and the lengths to which we go to  stay connected, no matter the distance.

As we delve into the incredible advancements that allow us to  communicate across the stars, Scotty’s story serves as a poignant  reminder of the enduring connection between pets and their humans. His  fictional reunion with his master aboard the ISS, facilitated by  groundbreaking technology, is more than just a fantasy; it is a  testament to the power of love, transcending even the boundaries of  space.

This documentary invites viewers to reflect on the emotional  landscape of animals like Scotty, who embody the silent, patient longing  that so many pets experience when their humans are far away. Through  Scotty’s eyes, we not only witness the marvels of space communication  but also feel the deep, heartfelt connections that bind us all, no  matter where we are in the universe.
